My bike = 29'r
This is my "go-to" tire selection for most riding conditions (which is hardpack/loose over hard with locks of rocks)
Front - 2.4" Maxxis Ardent EXO
Rear - 2.2" Maxxis Ikon EXO
WTB Bronsons.............. Love them.
For riding in New England (rocky, rooted technicla singletrack) I prefere the continental Mountain Kings & Trail Kings. I run them tubeless.
Mich Wild Grip-R love 'em
I am facing the same decision. Sometime in the next several months my new Yeti SB95 will be arriving. It comes with Schwalbe tires. I think the Nobby Nic will be on the front and possibly the Racing Ralph on back. From my research I am thinking about swapping out the Schwalbe, adding No Tubes rim strips and mounting Maxxis Ardent 2.4 up front. But I am not sure what to mount in the rear. I ride north Georgia trails which are always rocky and frequently wet. So like Bikerad I need some advice.
An Ardent/Ignitor combo is excellent for rocky and rooty terrain. The Ignitors also shed mud surprisingly well, are durable and last a good long time. I run Ignitors on my SS at Monte Sano, which is extremely rocky, and I will be riding then this year at the Snake Creek Gap TT, which is in northern GA. They also work well on smooth trails.
Custom Steel Cysco 29er (on the way)

"Rest satisfied with doing well and leave others to talk of you as they please"
"Every time I make a plan, God laughs at me."
Maxxis Ardent up front on the rocks, which we have a lot of in Korea.
Anything thick-walled and under $25 for the rear.
I like the Ignitor (especially now that there is an EXO sidewall version) but it's downfall is it's lack of volume. I've expressed the need for a higher volume tire like the Ignitor to the Maxxis Engineer and showed him first-hand on a slightly damp ride on Monte Sano. For the winter, I'll just keep the 2.4 Ardent on front and rear.
